Anne Eden
Formerly Chief Executive, Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust Board Development

When I was appointed as Chief Executive at Buckinghamshire, the organisation that was reeling from the aftermath of a severely critical H.C.C. report. As a new CEO, with a new Chair, we started to rebuild the Board and the organisation with 5 new Non-Executives, a new Medical Director, Nurse Director and Chief Operating Officer. As a team we were exposed to a number of organisations providing support to the new Board from The Institute of Improvement, the Clinical Governance Unit, the SHA and various private organisations. The work undertaken by Oxford Executive (OE) was of a different order of magnitude. Firstly, their approach gets to know the culture of the organisation. I believe this is a powerful way to understand 'how the organisation (we) got here' and how best to manage change for positive service improvement. The second component of note is work with each individual. The approach is not a "one size fits all". By understanding how each individual can optimise their potential it makes for an outcome where 'the sum of the individual parts is greater for the organisation'. Then by considering how we work as a team, both inside and out with the organisation and focussing the collective talents on the objectives of the Trust, I believe it makes for a sustainable solution and improvements that are not 'one off' but embedded in a new culture - a new way of working. Previous attempts at Board development have been more 'Tick Box' whereas OE helps organisations to deliver and meet their strategic objectives Ongoing support and coaching then helps the team get through difficult times/relationships. I wholeheartedly recommend Oxford Executive.

Dr Kathy McLean
Executive Medical Director
NHS Improvement

I have known Maire for many years. In my previous role as Medical Director at Derby Hospitals Foundation Trust, Maire worked with the Executive Team as part of the team development programme. The input was extremely helpful and stimulating. Detailed knowledge of each of the team members prior to the joint sessions made the process more effective. I would recommend Oxford Executive to any Senior/Executive Team who wished to maximise their effectiveness.

Jenny Wright
Formerly Executive Director
Supporting Public Health

Our organisation (SPH) has actively been working with Maire and team for the last 2 years. SPH is the only NHS public health agency in England and, currently, the largest public health organisation with over 100 staff, operating under a range of contracts and service level agreements to deliver public health services locally, regionally across the south east, and nationally. We engaged Oxford Executive to help with our organisational change programme and transition from a number of semi-independent units to a single organisation ready to develop and expand. Oxford Executive provided the following services: 1-1 coaching for executive members and senior staff in the organisation 1-2 coaching where appropriate Supporting Myers Briggs assessment of the whole of the senior team and facilitating an away day with the senior team with follow-up individual sessions where appropriate Facilitating a day for all staff to launch the new organisation We have always found Maire and team offer a service which is completely professional, confidential and flexible to meet our needs. They have been particularly helpful in assisting us to think through - and give us the confidence - to go forward as a business within the NHS. Since our involvement with Oxford Executive, a number of our programmes have secured major national contracts. The individual coaching senior staff underwent has assisted development of this enormously. I would have no hesitation in recommending the company for organisations going through similar change processes. They are particularly skilled in the coaching and mentoring of individuals.

Alison Edgington
Formerly Chief Executive
Surrey Community Health Chief Executive and Chair Development Programme

Oxford Executive were commissioned by Surrey Community Health to support the development of the relationship between the Independent Lay Chair and Chief Executive (CE). Both individuals were new in post and wanted to commence their appointments by ensuring that they developed a relationship which would be beneficial to the strategic leadership of the organisation. The programme involved MBTI assessments and coaching sessions both on an individual and 'two-way' basis. The individual sessions prepared the ground for a joint session which fostered a positive, effective working relationship capable of promoting strategic, visible, transformational leadership and promoting the organisation in a positive light, thus encouraging inter agency partnerships. The joint sessions also assisted both parties with becoming role models by ensuring that the organisation lives up to the vision and values agreed by the shadow board and gains a strong reputation for delivery against plans. Above all the sessions have provided greater understanding of the motivations and personalities of both parties thus promoting the accountability of the CE to the Chair and in building collaborative relationships between the executive directors and independent lay members that benefit the organisation. Maire Brankin approached this work from a standpoint of respect for both the CE and Chair as individuals and in doing so gained the trust of both parties. I am pleased to recommend Oxford Executive and will offer further details on request.

Julie Acred
Formerly Chief Executive
Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

I have worked with Mrs Brankin for many years, having been allocated as a newly appointed Chief Executive in the early 90s. Maire has provided me with personal support and coaching during the period to date in support of my roles as Chief Executive of Northern Devon Health Care Trust and currently Chief Executive of Derby Hospitals Foundation Trust. In addition to offering personal support and coaching Maire has worked with the Executive Team here in Derby, helping us develop effective team working through understanding the dynamics of the Team, the key elements of our Agenda and relationships which need to be developed in the wider community. I can say without hesitation that Maire has contributed a great deal to the effective working of Northern Devon Health Care Trust and Derby Hospitals Foundation Trust. She continues to offer one to one support to various members of my current team as part of their agreed personal development plan. I have always found Maire to be extremely professional, very knowledgeable about the NHS and the challenges it faces, and prepared to put forward new ideas and approaches which add value to the existing knowledge and skills within the team. I would have no hesitation in recommending her to join the list of approved external consultancy firms to support your activities in performance support.

Paul Stillabower
Global Head of Product Management, RBC Investor and Treasury Services

I worked with Oxford Executive Coaching, and in particular Maire Brankin, extensively from 1998 to 2002, both as a member of a UK-based executive management team and as the managing director of a UK-based executive team. I found Maire to be extremely professional, highly intuitive and very effective in both her approach to coaching and the techniques that she applied. In particular, Maire specialises in helping individuals reach their own conclusions, understand their strengths and weaknesses and deal directly with areas which would naturally cause friction in their professional career. I would highly recommend this organisation in an advisory capacity for cultural or leadership based coaching.

Formerly Chief Executive
South Somerset PCT

I am pleased to provide a reference for Oxford Executive. I have had a long standing association with this organisation since 1998 when Maire Brankin began work with an executive team at a Health Authority working on team performance and providing individual executive coaching for team members. Since 2003 OE has provided high level support to me and my executive team, undertaking individual psychometric and team profiling, to develop optimal team performance. This work has included organisational cultural audits including the Trust Board, the Professional Executive Committee and peers. The work has continued with individual executive coaching and succession planning in organisational and individual terms. OE has also provided specific coaching on chairing and relationship building with our Professional Executive Committee Chair. Work with the PEC has included clinical leadership and organisational contribution. I would recommend them very highly indeed.
